How Twitter Got (Even) More Followers!

They forced users to follow the footsteps of previously “successful” Twits

What does that mean? Here’s a quote from Josh Elman:

If you manually selected and followed at least 5-10 Twitter accounts in your first day on Twitter, you were much more likely to become a long term user, since you had chosen things that interested you.

Since twitter’s an SEO play (having users generate content for them) a successful user is someone tweeting. Forcing people to follow people they like right off the bat dramatically increases the likelihood they’ll stick — and tweet.

Small smart tweaks have dramatic changes. A couple hours of development lead to huge gains in valuation. Winning.
