Why the Pinterest's invite?

Sharing. It’s really difficult to slice this one – It’s really easy explaining things after the fact, but there are some unavoidable stereotypes that I’m going to use before I go into an explanation: 

  • Women account for 80% of consumer spending
  • Women account for majority of social tweets / shares / etc.
  • Women are usually first to try new products.

So women like trying new things, buying new things, and sharing new things and they don’t have a central hub for this? Definitely a product win, but lets focus on the marketing piece:

Having content is less important than having exclusive content you want your friends to see. I guess that’s probably the idea, but they removed it so I’m not sure if they outgrew it or it didn’t provide as much value as they originally have thought.

Good move on demographic though.
